Deanship of Graduate Studies and Research
A Word from the Dean:
Despite its relatively young age, Prince Sultan University has presented itself as one of the leading private universities in the Middle East. With focus on both quality education and research, PSU is rising fast among international institutions of higher education. PSU sees itself as a primary player in the push towards the ambitious goals of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Preparing enlightened minds, training skilled individuals, conducting advanced research, stimulating knowledge-based economy, reaching out to the community are some of the banner dimensions of PSU’s philosophy and actions.
The Deanship of Graduate Studies and Research (DGSR) stands in the midst of all those dimensions. Tasked with overseeing post-graduate academic programs, research, and knowledge resources, the DGSR aspires to create a sustained ecosystem of high-level enquiry and cutting-edge innovation. The DGSR arches over three main entities: The Graduate Studies Unit, the Research and Translation Center, and the Central Library.
The Graduate Studies Unit (GSU) is tasked with overseeing the creation, operation, optimization, and assessment of post-graduate programs. Currently, there are four masters-level programs operating in PSU, each nested under a college. While the inner academic affairs of each program is aptly handled within its respective college, the GSU ensures that all academic and administrative matters fall within acknowledged regulations of the country’s educational system and PSU’s own guidelines. The GSU also maintains close coordination with colleges in order to assess all aspects of post-graduate programs and suggest modifications accordingly.
The Research and Translation Center (RTC) is a cornerstone of PSU’s research management activities. It is tasked with the development and implementation of PSU’s research-oriented strategic plans and priorities. The RTC provides research grants for faculty members who require funding to conduct research as well as those who wish to author or translate academic books. The center also organizes research-related events (forums, discussion circles, exhibitions) and research training workshops.
The PSU Central Library is currently situated in two branches: a men’s branch and a women’s branch, each having growing collections of books, periodicals, and references. Rich electronic resources are made available to students and faculty through the library’s subscription to the Saudi Digital Library (SDL). SDL is an electronic hub that contains most of the world’s distinguished publication databases. There are hundreds of thousands of full-text journals, e-books, theses, and proceedings.
As PSU grows, so does the DGSR and its subordinate units. It is our aim to continue to develop PSU’s post-graduate programs, its research output, and its scholarly resources in a manner befitting of its ambitious outlook.
