At the End-of-the-Year Ceremony held at the Cultural Palace
The University Rector Appreciates the Outstanding Staff & Students and Announces the Launch of a New Scientific Publication
Under the patronage of His Excellency the University Rector, Dr. Ahmed Bin Saleh Al-Yamani, and the presence of the University Vice-Rectors and Officials, the Evaluation and Academic Accreditation Center arranged a gathering for all the university affiliates including officials, faculty members and administrators at the cultural palace of the Diplomatic Quarter to celebrate the end of the academic year 2015-2016.
The gathering aimed at strengthening the connection between faculty members and administrators with the university higher management and familiarize all participants with the progress in implementing the university's current strategic plan and the future strategic directions for the university. The ceremony also witnessed celebrating excellence among faculty members and students through granting the Rector's Teaching Excellence Award and the PSU's Research Excellence Award to faculty members and the Outstanding Student Award to a male student and another to a female student.
The University Rector delivered a speech welcoming all participants at the start of the ceremony and congratulating them on the university's accomplishments throughout the current academic year and the continuous progress at al levels. The Rector noted that these accomplishments are the result of the hard work of all the university's affiliates and their team spirit. The Rector also highlighted the significance of maintaining excellence at PSU since the university represents a distinguished transition for higher education in Saudi Arabia as the first private university in the Kingdom which paved the way for other private institutions of higher education to follow suit.
This was followed by the University Rector's talk on the role of education in implementing the Kingdom's 2030 Vision which aims at reducing dependence on oil and increasing the contributions of economic sectors which rely on the productivity and efficiency of human resources. The Rector highlighted the University's commitment towards this vision through qualifying the youth to the job market with excellence and efficiency as reflected in the university's mission "providing distinguished education with international standards."
His Excellency then discussed the university's strategic plan and its accomplishment indicators during the previous year. He also shared the university's strategic directions during the upcoming period in order to provide a clear vision for all concerned and allow them to work harmoniously to achieve the remaining goals of the strategic plan. The Rector highlighted that the University has achieved more than 86% of all sectors of the strategic plan, which is a distinguished accomplishment bearing in mind that the plan extends until 2017.
His Excellency the Rector highlighted the University's quality model through which the University recruits the best students and faculty members, offers the best academic programs and serves the community. The University's strong commitment to serving the community has extended to qualifying the unemployed Saudi university graduates through King Salman Education for Employment Program through which the University has qualified more than 1,000 graduates to the job market. The international certification the graduates obtained enabled them to overcome unemployment and occupy outstanding positions in technical centers at governmental and private sectors.
The Rector pointed out the diverse means of excellence provided by the University leading to excellent accomplishments. He, for instance, referred to the completion of 5 Law graduates for their Master's programs in top Law colleges in the United States of America, which qualified them to pass the American Law Bar Exam, a high-caliber international professional exam.
His Excellency pointed out that the university's collaboration with other international academic entities in terms of exchanging expertise and implementing best academic practices is a one means of excellence at the University. Clear instances that bore fruit are the faculty members' obtainment of fellowship with the British Higher Education Academy and the provision of a study abroad program for one semester at more than 10 international universities in America, Asia and Europe. Such a program allows students to study a whole semester at one of these universities during the Bachelor's program with the aim of enriching the student's academic experience.
In its continued commitment to scientific research, the Rector announced the launch of a new refereed scientific journal that will be issued soon to offer a new window for faculty members and researchers who belong to the University or other institutions to publish their research and introduce their output to the scientific and academic circles.
The Rector added that this academic and scientific excellence will be accompanied with an expansion of installations. In this realm, he highlighted that three main buildings are currently under construction; one of which is about to finish and 60% of the other two have been accomplished.
At the end of the ceremony, outstanding students and faculty members were appreciated. The Rector's Teaching Excellence Award as well as the PSU's Research Excellence Award were announced. In addition, a number of faculty members were appreciated for their distinguished academic performance at the levels of colleges.
Finally, the Rector extended special thanks to all the University's Vice-Rectors, Colleges and units for their remarkable efforts to achieve the strategic plan and to the entities which supported the success of the ceremony.
