The Japan trip included a morning with Mizuho Securities Co Ltd and afternoon at the Royal Saudi Embassy in Tokyo, a tour of Japan cultural treasures in Kyoto, a visit to Toyota City for a look at the Japanese auto production, and an extended stay in Nagoya courtesy of PSU's partner Nagoya University of Commerce &amp; Business (NUCB) where the Rector was the guest speaker at the school's Matriculation Ceremony on April 1st.</p></td></tr> <tr><td><img src="images/JapanVisit_041310/Rector_Lunch.jpg" style="height: 152px; width: 212px"/></td> <td valign="top"><p class="footer P" align="left">As guests of Mizuho, Rector Yamani and Dr Klinkner met with the Securities company Deputy President Mr Yutaka Endo and Mizuho Saudi Arabia Co Chairman Yasuhiro Tanaka to discuss arrangements for the upcoming 'Symposium on Asian Economies' that will be jointly-hosted by PSU and Mizuho at PSU on 9 May 2010. Mizuho Securities, who also teamed with PSU in 2007 to put on a well received Symposium on the 'Japanese Stock Market Experience,' invited the PSU delegation for an excursion through the Happoen gardens and a formal ryotei luncheon.</p> </td> </tr> <tr><td>&nbsp;</td> <td valign="top">&nbsp;</td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="2"> <table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"> <tr> <td valign="top"> <p class="footer P" align="left">Later in the day the PSU delegation paid a visit to the Royal Saudi Embassy (RSE) to meet with the Ambassador, His Excellency Dr Abdulaziz Turkistani. The Ambassador congra-tulated PSU for being the first Saudi school to sign an MOU with a Japanese university, the first to send a student delegation to Nagoya last summer and the first formally to participate in a Japanese school's matriculation ceremony. Visits were made to the downtown Nagoya pyramid-domed graduate campus, the open-space affiliated Nagoya International High School and to the emerald landscaped undergraduate campus in Nisshin. Also of noted was the all round excellence of NUCB&#8217;s academic programs.</p> </td> </tr> <tr> <td>&nbsp;</td> <td valign="top"> &nbsp;</td> </tr> </table> </td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="2"> <table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"> <tr> <td valign="top"> <p class="footer P" align="left">Following the playing of the Saudi National Anthem and NUCB President Hiroshi Kurimoto&#8217;s opening speech to the new Class of 2010, Dr Yamani gave an address on &#8216;Change and Continuity&#8217;. In his presentation, the Rector highlighted the growth and blossoming of Japan-Saudi Arabia relations, the challenges of running a Business School in changing times, and the changes encountered in going to college. In Tokyo a number of the details relating to the upcoming Symposium on Asian Economies were finalized with PSU corporate partner Mizuho Securities Co Ltd. The University was warmly received by His Excellency Ambassador Turkistani and learned of his keen interest in and support of PSU&#8217;s engagement with Japanese institutions of higher education. The Ambassador also graciously agreed to participate as a speaker in the upcoming PSU-Mizuho&#8217;s &#8216;Symposium on Asian Economies&#8217;. In addition, Dr Essam Bukhary of the RSE offered to assist in facilitating ties between PSU&#8217;s Prince Mugrin Data Mining Center and Japanese IT firms.</p></td> </tr> <tr> <td valign="top"> &nbsp;</td> <td>&nbsp;</td> </tr> <tr> <td valign="top" colspan="2"> <p class="footer P" align="left">In Kyoto, the PSU delegation enjoyed not only the hospitality of NUCB but also appreciated and admired the Japanese people s love of their heritage and how they have been able to hold fast to their fondness for nature in the 21st Century.
