Course: CMP 011 – Computer Orientation I

Course Description:
The main objective of this course is to provide students with the required skills for using computers efficiently and for using the common applications of computers which they need during their university study and future careers. It builds upon the knowledge and skills they acquired through their study in high school. The course covers the practical aspects of operating systems, online-based information retrieval, some advanced topics in word processing and a wide range of topics in manipulating data using spread sheets. It is a lab-based course. Hence, students are expected to learn by doing.

•Attendance is very important (getting 8 absences or more means DN).

This course complements the CMP001 course. Its main objective is to provide students with the advanced computer skills which they need to use during their university study and future careers. The course introduces the computer applications and the practical aspects on how to protect data and fundamental troubleshooting tasks. The course covers some advanced topics in Presentation tools and introduces database concepts and how to use Database Management System tools. It is a lab-based course. Hence, students are expected to learn by doing.
