Dr. Yamani graduated from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI, USA with a Ph.D. in Structural Engineering in May 1992. He also obtained his M. Sc. in 1987 and a B. Sc. in 1983 with honors (summa cum laude) from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, N.C., U.S.A. In addition, Dr. Yamani earned a diploma in pre-Engineering in 1980 from Gaston College, Gaston, N.C., U.S.A.

In 1992, Dr. Yamani was appointed as Assistant Professor in the College of Architecture and Planning at King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Four years later, he was appointed as Chairman of the Department of Architecture and Building Science in the College of Science and Planning, King Saud University Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

In 1992, Dr. Yamani was appointed as Assistant Professor in the College of Architecture and Planning at King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Four years later, he was appointed as Chairman of the Department of Architecture and Building Science in the College of Science and Planning, King Saud University Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

In 1999, Dr. Yamani was appointed as the first Vice Dean to the newly founded Prince Sultan Private College, which evolved into the successful Prince Sultan University.

In 2003, he was designated as the acting Vice Rector of Prince Sultan University, and one year later, he became officially the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs.

In June of 2005, Dr. Yamani was officially appointed as the second Rector of Prince Sultan University.

Throughout his professional career, Dr. Yamani has chaired or has been a member of numerous academic, administrative and professional committees.
