At present, Peter is a member of the Prince Sultan University Executive Council for Quality Assurance and is very committed in the implementation of the 5-year Development Plan of the Department as well as that of the University. In recognition of his valuable support to the University, the PSU Student Affairs Center presented him, as well as the Physical Education Department, with Plaques of Recognition for his leadership and role in offering outstanding activities for the PSU community in both 2004 and 2005.

Peter received his Bachelor’s of Education from the University of Tasmania in Launceston, Australia, in 1999. He is currently teaching beginner as well as intermediate golf courses at PSU.

     
     

Dr. Jose P. Catapang
Faculty Member

Jose Catapang, PhD, received his academic qualifications from the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City, Philippines. Dr. Joey is the founding president of the Sports Psychology Association of the Philippines and the Founding Head of the Sports Psychology Unit of the Philippine Sports Commission in 1993. He is also the founding president of the Sport Psychological Training, Consultancy and Research Center, a consulting office focused on providing psychological training to beginner and advance athletes who compete in the international sports arena.

 

 

Dr. Joey joined the PSU Physical Education Department in 2002 and was instrumental in organizing the University Health Club and PSU Volleyball Team. He was also a key speaker in the 2004 PSU Health Awareness Week.

With his extensive background in research and organizational management, Dr. Joey was appointed Director of the PSU Academic and Assessment Planning Center in 2005. He teaches university-level physical education courses as well as introductory courses in psychology as part of the required general education courses.

     
     

Mr. Sven Kelly
Faculty Member
Manager, Corporate Sponsorship Sports & Athletics


Sven Kelly, M.S., is originally from Germany and comes to us from Florida, USA, where he worked with world class professional sports organizations such as the Miami Dolphins (NFL), the Florida Marlins (MLB), and the Florida Panthers (NHL). In all, he combines over 25 years of experience in the Sport and Event Industry as an Athlete, Coach, Administrator, and Personal Trainer, nationally and internationally, on the Amateur-, Collegiate, Semi-Professional, and Professional Level, with an emphasis on American Football.

 

 

While teaching several classes for the physical education department, his main task is to establish a national league for collegiate athletics in Saudi Arabia and to develop a corporate sponsorship program for the PSU Falcons, the school’s athletic teams.

Sven earned his Master’s Degree of Science in Sport Management from Barry University in Miami, Fl., and his Bachelor of Science Degree in Language, Education, and Social & Behavioral Sciences from the University of Central Florida in Orlando. He also holds an Associate in Arts Degree in Physical Education from Miami Dade Community College in Miami, Fl.

     
     

Mr. Alex C. Soligam
Faculty Member

Alex Soligam, MA, is the racket-sports specialist of the PSU Physical Education Department. Having earned his Bachelor’s of Arts in Psychology from the Philippine Normal College, Alex decided to pursue a specialization in Physical Education and received his graduate certificate from the same institution in 1989. He later earned his Master’s of Arts in Education from the University of Perpetual Help in Laguna, Philippines in 1995.

A badminton coach for 15 years, Alex teaches beginner and intermediate level racket sports such as badminton, squash and tennis. Alex, together with Mark Pornan, organizes the intra-varsity sport activities every semester.

 
     
     

Mr. Marshall C. Defensor
Faculty Member

Marshall Defensor, MA, was an active figure in the Philippine Women’s Basketball scene before joining the PSU Physical Education Faculty in 2005. With his extensive coaching experience, Marshall led the Philippine Normal University Women’s Basketball Team to 2 championship titles in the Metro Manila Inter-Collegiate Athletic Association in 2000 and 2002.

Marshall, with a major in Physical Education, received his Bachelor’s of Science as well as his Master’s of Arts from the Philippine Normal University, where he also served as an Assistant Professor and Sports Director from 2002 to 2005.

 
     
     

Mr. Mark Anthony C. Pornan
Faculty Member

Mark Anthony Pornan is an Asian Football Confederation “B” Licensed Coach, a former member of the Philippine National Football Team, who played in the 1991 and 1992 editions of the Southeast Asian University Games in Singapore and Malaysia, and a former semi-pro football player for the Indira Football Club in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam (1992-1993).

Mark has a Bachelor’s of Science in Physical Education from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines, and has completed all academic requirements for the degree Master of Science in Physical Education at the UP Diliman College of Human Kinetics.
 

 

A Centennial Awardee for Sports at the Western Visayas College of Science and Technology, and the Philippine representative to the Football Coaching Observation Tour in Korea-Japan 2002 FIFA World Cup, Mark teaches beginner and intermediate level soccer and coaches the PSU Soccer Team. He also works with Alex Soligam in organizing the intra-varsity sport activities every semester.
 

     
     

Mr. Jonathan Y. Cagas
Faculty Member


Jonathan Cagas, MS, joined the PSU Physical Education Department in March 2006. Prior to this, he was a full-time faculty member at the University of the Philippines College of Human Kinetics in Diliman, Quezon City, Philippines.

Jon received both his Bachelor’s degree in Sports Science and Master’s of Science degree in Physical Education from the University of the Philippines-Diliman in 1999 and 2005, respectively. He specializes in health and fitness promotion, fitness instruction, and mind-body techniques. At PSU, Jon teaches PED 001, PED 002, beginners/intermediate volleyball, and beginners/intermediate weight training.

Mr. Ibnossoud K. Egil
Life Guard/Pool Technician

A former member of the Philippine National Swimming Team, Ibnossoud Egil earned his academic credentials from the Philippine School of Business Admnistration in 1978.

Egil worked as a swimming instructor for the United States Sports Academy in KSA from 1982 to 1999. He joined PSU in 1999 and has taught swimming both for the PE and recreation programs.

Egil is also a martial arts expert having won three championship titles in Karate and an active member of the Riyadh Bowling Association.

 
     
     

Mr. Hossam Faroq Abdulrhman
Department Secretary

Hossam hails from Sudan. He is the secretary of the Department of Physical Education, Health & Recreation, and one of the supervisors for the Evening Recreation Activity Program.

Hossam has a Bachelor of Arts English literature (2002) and a Diploma in Computer Sciences. He loves to play football and table tennis. He is bilingual speaking Arabic and English fluently.
