Are You
Ready for International Accreditation?
Over 70 representatives from more than 10 different colleges and
universities came to the first Intercollegiate Quality Assurance
workshop at Prince Sultan University, College for Women on Thursday,
May 3rd. The workshop was hosted and conducted from 10 a.m. to 1
p.m. by Ms. Tahira Hoke, Coordinator of the Academic Assessment and
Planning Center, and Ms. Amal Al-Darraj, IT Center Coordinator.
Dr.
Fadia Al-Saleh, Dean, opened the workshop and Dr. Amal Al-Toaimy,
Vice Dean, observed the “Asset Mapping Challenge” which required
participants to think of their biggest problems on campus and come
up with a no budget solution. The focus of the workshop was Prince
Sultan University’s experiences during the internal and pilot
external reviews for accreditation this past year.
Most of the workshop participants expressed that they were
extremely impressed with the workshop. A CD with tools to help
support the colleges/universities was distributed to the first 40
attendees. Ms. Hoke and her team have been requested to do
follow-up workshops at King Saud University and Imam Saud University
before the end of this month.
Ms. Tahira Hoke hopes for AAPC members to exchange their familiarity
with the new accreditation system, by the National Commission for
Academic Assessment and Accreditation, for opportunities to
collaborate on research projects across fields. For example, Ms.
Tahira Hoke and Dr. Eqbal Darandi, King Saud University’s Director
for Quality Assurance and Professional Development for the women’s
colleges, completed their research project on the Needs Assessment
of Quality Assurance Programs in Higher Education and will present
the findings during the Saudi Education and Psychological
Association Conference next week at Al-Qaasim University . (See
www.gesten.org).
Ms. Hoke
and Dr. Darandi hope to initiate a topic interest group on
evaluation and continue to provide quality assurance representatives
support and guidance on how to use this new process to accomplish
the mission of their respective colleges/universities. Quality
assurance representatives are encouraged to participate in a yahoo
group at
