Welcome to PSU-CW English Department!
The Department
The English Department at Prince
Sultan
University houses the
University English Preparatory Year Program that
helps students to build their language abilities
since the University uses English as its teaching
medium.
At the College level there are three programs
available: Applied Linguistics, Computational
Linguistics, and Translation.
The Applied Linguistics program focuses on
teaching the components of language that are to do
with learning and teaching of foreign languages.
The Computational Linguistics program is a
field of study that focuses on the study of computer
systems with a view to understanding and generating
natural languages and laying the foundations of a
broad base for computerized analysis and generation
of natural languages.
The Translation program offers courses in
theoretical and applied linguistics as well as
practical training in the translation of various
types of texts as well as different forms of
interpretation.
I believe that education is the
vehicle that will lead us to the future for it
expands our thoughts which will allow for the world
to progress.
Our mission in the English Department is to
help our students achieve successful careers upon
completion of their degrees.
We encourage them to prepare for their future
endeavors by taking their education seriously and to
be proactive about achieving their goals.
In addition, the faculty members are
committed to improving the quality of education by
holding workshops, seminars, attending conferences,
publishing papers, and linking theory to practice in
the classroom.
Our link with employers helps us to develop
our curriculum and to provide the courses and
training that our students will need upon
graduation.
The COOP program allows the students to
interact with their prospective employers by
utilizing what they have studied at the University
and putting it into practice.
Therefore, I foresee the graduates of the
English Department as becoming leaders in their
different fields of study.
My
background
On a more personal note, I have
been working in the Middle East
for the past ten years and enjoy doing so.
My degrees are from the
University of Cincinnati located in the United States and my specialization
is in TESL.
I have experience with teaching courses in
TESL, ESL/EFL/ESP, and Linguistics. My
administrative experience began when I was a
graduate student and while I was at King
Saud
University where I was the
Coordinator for the English Translation section.
I bring these different experiences to the
job and will do my best to uphold the standards
expected from Prince Sultan
University in order to
maintain the quality of education needed to achieve
accreditation.
