Prince Salman Research & Translation Center
organized a presentation at the PSU auditorium
on Monday, 31st March 2008 to launch its
Young Researcher competition.
The event was attended by PSU teaching staff and
a large number of students. Details of the
competition, its conditions, subject areas,
registration period and prizes were announced.
Following the occasion, ‘University Spectrum’
interviewed Dr. Mohammad Al-Afandi, PSRTC
Director, and asked him about aims of the
competition and what’s to follow. He said “the
competition comes within PSRTC’s vision to
promote scientific research, encourage
innovation and identify talents at an early
stage. It is open to men and women, and is
sponsored by Microsoft in Riyadh, who promised
to offer prizes similar to PSU ones. They are
going to use projects presented within this
competition in their ‘Imagine Cup’, an important
annual contest in which students compete from
all over the world. Students from Saudi
universities have taken part in this contest”. “PSU”,
he added, “will take part in this significant
contest as a result of organizing the Young
Researcher competition.
The competition-launch event was attended by
Microsoft Academic Program’ Manager.
Contesters are registering for the competition
now, and are already inquiring about details of
the registration process and other relevant
information. Two committees have been set up for
supervising and following the competition
processes. Similar committees have been
established at the Women College fro the same
purposes. Names of the winners will be announced
in a major ceremony to be held for this purpose
at the PSU premises in November.
PSCRT has announced the competition conditions
and prizes in issue No. 16 of the ‘University
