It was with great pride and pleasure that the
Physical Education Department under Mr. Peter
Goward announced yesterday, Sunday, 28th of
October, 2007, the launch of the new Prince
Sultan University “Falcons”, PSU’s
intercollegiate athletics division. For now,
this division will be comprised of a football
team (FIFA rules) and a basketball team (FIBA
rules), but with time more disciplines may be
added.
Part of the announcement was also the unveiling
of the new Falcons Logo, an “art deco” style
bird of prey, swooping downward, before the
skyline of the Arabian dessert. The logo will be
used in many variations, to establish a
corporate identity for the Falcons and PSU, and
to promote the sale of merchandise and fan
articles which will directly benefit the
Physical Education Department’s athletics
division.
The Falcons will compete in the SANCAA, the
Saudi Arabian National Collegiate Athletics
Association, which is currently being founded by
Mr. Sven Kelly, a member of PSU’s Physical
Education Department. This Athletics Association
will include University and College teams from
all over the Kingdom, and it will host national
championships at the end of each season for each
sport provided. Currently, there are 22 School
of Higher Education nationwide invited to join
this new league and we can expect great
competition and entertainment in the months to
come.
Any PSU students interested in trying out for
these newly starting teams, football and
basketball, please see the head coaches for each
team, Mr. Marshal Defensor (Basketball) and Mr.
Mark Pornan (Football). There will be try-outs
and preparation games, and we want the best
students PSU has to offer to play for us and
represent us on a national level.
With best regards and the greatest of confidence
in this new, first season in the SANCAA,
