The workshop was held on Tuesday,
Muharram 13, 1429 AH; related to January 22, 2008.
After delegates’ registration, the workshop was
started at 8:30AM; at Prince Salman conference hall
in PSU; by reading verses from the Holy Qur’an. Then
a welcome speech was delivered by HE Vice-Rector for
Academic Affairs Dr. Abdul-Hafeeth Feda, on behalf
of HE the Rector. HE Dr. Feda, welcomed the
distinguished delegates in his speech and wished
them interest and benefit through the program of the
workshop. Then, HE Dr. Eltayeb Saleh Abuelyaman,
Dean of College of Computer and Information
Sciences, gave an introductory speech on the theme
of the workshop and the speakers.
Following that, Dr. Zuhair Abdul-Jabbar; from the
National Commission for Academic Accreditation and
Assessment (NCAAA) in Saudi Arabia, was invited to
give his lecture entitled "The quality of higher
education in Saudi Arabia: history and process"
which lasted approximately forty-five minutes, after
which the main workshop speaker, Dr. Hamid Arabnia,
was invited to deliver his first lecture entitled
"Towards Global Quality Higher Education: Challenges
and Reality".
After a coffee break, three short talks on the
University's vision were delivered briefly, by Dr.
Joe Catabang; director of the Academic Assessment &
Planning Center at PSU, Miss Tahira Haqq; director
of the Academic Assessment & Planning Centre in PSCW,
and Dr. Mohamed Al-Afandi director of the Prince
Salman Research Center.
After that, the way was opened again for the main
speaker, Dr. Hamid Arabnia to deliver his second
lecture entitled "University Ranking: A tool or an
Outcome?”. The lecture lasted to Al-Dhuhur prayer
time when the workshop was stopped for performing
prayer and taking lunch. Then there was a panel
discussion about the Global Quality Issues of
Undergraduate Programs. The discussion was attended
by Dr. Hamid Arabnia; the main speaker, Dr. Omar Al-Turki;
Dean CCIS, KFUPM, Dr. Mohammad Al-Misher; Dean CBA,
PSU, Dr. Mujahid Mukhalalati; CCIS, KSU, Dr.
Mohammad El-Afandi; Director, Prince Salman Research
Center, PSU, and the discussion Moderator Dr.
Eltayeb Abuelyaman, Dean CCIS, PSU. The workshop was
concluded with an open discussion about the workshop
topics and then question answering.
It is worth mentioning that the invitation to
register and attend the workshop was open for
specialized people, and was published in a number of
local newspapers; as well as in the university’s web
site on the Internet; where registration was made
possible free of charge through the web.
