CMP011 – Computer Orientation I

Credits: 1 (0,2,0) - Prerequisite: None

Course Description:

The main objective of this course is to provide students with the required skills for using computers efficiently and for using the common applications of computers which they need during their university study and future careers. It builds upon the knowledge and skills they acquired through their study in high school. The course covers some advanced topics in word processing and a wide range of topics in manipulating data using spreadsheets. It is a lab-based course. Hence, students are expected to learn by doing.

CMP012 (PYP) – Computer Orientation II

Credits: 1 (0,2,0) - Prerequisite: CMP011

Course Description:

This course complements the CMP011 course. Its main objective is to provide students with the advanced computer skills which they need to use during their university study and future careers. The course covers some advanced topics in Presentation tools and introduces database concepts and how to use Database Management System tools. It is a lab-based course. Hence, students are expected to learn by doing.

Math001 (PYP) – Orientation Mathematics I

This course is designed to improve the student’s computational skills in basic Algebra and to demonstrate his writing ability in Mathematics with logical steps.

Math002 (PYP) – Orientation Mathematics II

This course is designed to improve the student’s computational skills in basic Algebra and to demonstrate his writing ability in Mathematics with logical steps.

PDS001 (PYP) – Personal Development Skills

This course helps develop basic competencies and soft skills that students need in their day to day academic and personal life. The theme of PDS 001 is ‘College Transition’ – how a new student can quickly and effectively adjust to the demands of undergraduate university life. Course facilitators promote the application, understanding, and appreciation of participants’ roles as active, engaged and responsible learners in a college context. Core skills covered at the 001 level are teamwork, participating in discussions, plan development, reflective writing, giving PowerPoint presentations, test-taking skills, and time management.

PDS002 (PYP) –Personal Development Skills

This course helps develop basic competencies and soft skills that students need in their day to day academic and personal life. The theme of PDS 002 is ‘Preparing and Planning for your Future’ – what major and what career is the student most suited for and how can he/she best self-direct themselves. Course facilitators promote the application, understanding, and appreciation of participants’ roles as active, engaged and responsible learners in a college context. Core skills covered at the 002 level are teamwork, participating in discussions, writing reflectively, giving PowerPoint presentations, planning, and critical thinking.
