Regional Inter-University Translation Competition

Established in 2014, TAC’s Regional Inter-University Translation Competition is one of the most recognized academic translation events in Saudi Arabia. It brings together undergraduate students from universities across the Kingdom and the region to compete, collaborate, and showcase their translation talent.

The competition aims to celebrate translation, enhance academic collaboration, and prepare students for future careers in the language industry.

Competition Tracks

1. Written Translation (Arabic ↔ English)

Participants translate a specialized text and are evaluated on accuracy, terminology, style, coherence, and overall quality

2. Consecutive Interpretation

Participants perform live interpretation and are assessed on clarity, delivery, memory skills, and command of both languages. Additional tracks may be added as needed.

Competition Objectives

Foster a healthy competitive environment among university students
Strengthen ties with translation departments across the region
Encourage high standards of translation and language competence
Spread awareness of modern translation approaches and tools
Celebrate and empower the next generation of translators

Eligibility & Participation

Participants must be undergraduate translation students
Each university may participate in one or both tracks
Each track allows one team per university
Students must be officially nominated by their home university

Note: Anonymous submissions ensure fair and unbiased judging.

Judging Process

A specialized judging committee evaluates entries based on clear academic criteria.

Judging Criteria Include:

Linguistic accuracy
Style and clarity
Terminology selection
Grammar and structure
Linguistic accuracy
Professional presentation

Judge Selection:

Experts with academic and professional translation experience
External specialists to ensure neutrality
No judge evaluates work from their home institution

All judging decisions are final.

Awards & Recognition

Financial prizes for the top three teams in each track
Appreciation certificates for participants
Recognition for supervising faculty and committee members
Award ceremony held on competition day

Competition Exhibition

Alongside the competition, TAC organizes an exhibition that includes:

Student translation projects
Language and translation centers
Book displays and authorship initiatives
University booths highlighting academic programs

This exhibition celebrates creativity, innovation, and engagement in the translation field
