The Launching of Security Engineering Lab

To align with the institutional vision in supporting research and providing suitable environment and resources needed to excel and produce in important research areas. Prince Sultan University (PSU) high management has approved the launching of Security Engineering Lab (SEL). SEL contributes directly to PSU research theme “Data Science and Security”. “SEL’s mission it to motivate, educate and train a new generation of security researchers and professionals to produce experts in cyber technologies and systems. The lab fosters several collaborations with national and international security research groups and centers, governmental agencies, companies and academic institutions with the purpose of excellence in security solutions outcomes. Overall, SEL aims to contribute significantly to providing educational, research, outreach, and partnering security services nationally and internationally” Dr. Iman Almomani, Leader of Security Engineering Lab. Vision SEL is looking to contribute significantly in delivering the vision and mission of PSU and consequently the Saudi initiatives of 2020 with regard to research and development of the security area.​ Objectives Enrich security awareness and readiness in Saudi culture New facility for a growing curriculum of undergraduate and graduate cybersecurity courses University publicity Consultation Services (Governments & industry needs) Training services Hosting/organizing conferences, symposiums, workshops and competitions Research/Master proposals Software security solutions products including testing tools, datasets, and security services Funded or jointly funded national and international projects Patents E4E (Education for Employment) Publications SEL Current Projects SEL team is currently working on the following projects: Malware/Ransomware Detection Systems for Android Devices Smart detection systems and risk scoring systems for Android malwares in general and Ransomwares in specific. Secure/lightweight routing in Wireless sensor networks Lightweight security solutions to protect the routing services in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) from different types of security attacks. Broadcast Authentication in Internet of Things systems Efficient authentication techniques/ protocols to secure broadcasting communications in Internet of Things (IoT) – based systems. Intrusion Detection Systems in WSN Conduct research to find best match of data mining techniques to detect intrusions in Wireless Sensor Netw\orks (WSN). Secure SIP services in MANET Adapt SIP services in distributed environment of wireless Mobile Ad hoc network Net (MANET) in a secure and efficient way. Coming Events Trainings A series of workshops will be conducted to provide hands-on training with practical exercises. Training is essential to motivate and educate a new generation of cybersecurity researchers and professionals to qualify experts in cyber technologies and systems. Launching the Cybersecurity club The club aims to provide students who are interested in cybersecurity with the technical resources needed to advance their computer security knowledge. MENA ISC 2018 hackathon The students will participate in MENA ISC hackathon where they will explore combating cyber threats, and many more critical topics being faced throughout the world and specifically in our region.
