Visit to the Forensic Accounting Department at Deloitte.

The visit aimed to provide forensic accounting students with valuable insights into real-world forensic accounting practices. The session began with a welcoming speech delivered by Mr. Christopher Clements, General Partner, who introduced the students to the nature of forensic accounting services and explained the role forensic accountants play in fraud detection and investigation. He also discussed the types of fraud, methods of investigation, and the importance of professional skepticism in handling financial crime cases.

Following the introduction, students had the opportunity to meet with different teams who shared details about their specific roles in forensic investigations and the challenges they commonly face. One of the forensic investigation teams explained the process of evidence collection and the types of evidence typically sought. They also described several real-life cases that presented significant challenges—either due to a lack of evidence or the complexity of the fraudulent schemes involved.

Next, the data analytics team explained how analytics tools support forensic accountants in conducting more efficient investigations. They showed how they use Power BI and other analytics tools to analyze evidence, identify red flags, and generate insights that assist the investigation teams. The showed students samples of data analytics projects that illustrated how data visualization can detect fraud patterns.

In addition to fraud detection, the teams highlighted other important forensic accounting services, including fraud prevention, bankruptcy investigations, litigation support, and damage valuation.

Before the ends of the visit, students had an engaging Q&A session with forensic accounting experts. They asked about the key skills required to succeed in the profession, the technologies they should learn, and the career opportunities available for junior forensic accountants.
