Finale of the Sumo Robot Competition at Prince Sultan University

The Smart Systems Engineering Lab (SSEL) at the Electrical Engineering Program of the College of Engineering, led by the esteemed Dr. Moustafa M. Nasralla, recently hosted a momentous SUMO robot competition. This event, held in the lobby of Building 104, garnered a remarkable turnout, including distinguished figures such as Dr. Mohamed Bin Abdulrahman Al-Mesher Al-Jebreen, the Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Dr. Heba Bakr Khoshaim, the Vice President of the Female Campus. Also in attendance were Dr. Abdulhakim Almajid, the Dean of the College of Engineering, Dr. Mohamed A. Alshara, the Dean of the College of Computer and Information Sciences (CCIS), and Dr. Dhafer Almakhles, the head of the Electrical Engineering Program. The competition, a platform for fostering innovation, teamwork, robotics, and programming skills among students, commenced in January 2024 with an initial announcement. In the months leading up to the event, participating students dedicated themselves to a series of workshops and training sessions, honing their skills and preparing their robots for the contest.

The competition has successfully achieved its goal by enhancing students’ skills in designing and programming robots, which positively impacts their understanding, assimilating, and developing emerging technologies.

The event featured intense battles between seven qualified participants from both male and female campuses, drawing competitors from various colleges with different disciplines within the university. The competition culminated in six prestigious awards: three for the top positions and three for special categories, including best code, best strategy, and best design, with total amount of 8000 SAR.

The winner teams were as follows:

First Place (3000 SAR): "Kabotiti team"

Second Place (2000 SAR): "Falcons team"

Third Place (1500 SAR): "The Vanguard team"

In addition,  the off-track awards winners are:

Best Code: "The Vanguard team"

Best Design: "VoltAttackers team"

Best Strategy: "Falcons team"
