Prince Sultan College was established in 1998 and welcomed its first cohort of students the following year. In 2003, the Ministry of Higher Education formally elevated the Prince Sultan College to university status, establishing it as Prince Sultan University.
The University was inaugurated by His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, then Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense and Aviation, and Inspector General (may he rest in peace). It was founded by the Riyadh Philanthropic Society for Sciences and licensed by the Ministry of Higher Education as a private, non-profit academic institution in the city of Riyadh.
