Translation Competition
The Inter-University Translation Competition is a unique competition as it is the only one of its type in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Gulf. Since its beginning in 2014, it attracts translation departments in Saudi Arabia, and last year it expanded to include other universities from the region. It aims to promote the competitive spirit among the participants and prepare them to the vibrant labor market. The competition symbolizes the national vision 2030 in its focus on the youth and their readiness to the future.
During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, the competition was held virtually and was the first of its kind worldwide. The online participation has encouraged participation form Gulf Region universities. The competition was the first online Translation Competition in the world; the name was changed to “7th Regional Translation Competition (Virtual)”. It accomplished a resounding success, which all PSU community is proud of. Nine universities form Saudi Arabia and the Gulf Region participated in the competition. In 2022, due to the increasing demand and lack of a similar translation competition for male students, the competition expanded to include both male and female undergraduate students in addition to the participation of gulf Region universities. The winners of the first three places were announced at the end of the day and were awarded financial prizes and plaques in addition to plaques of participation to all participating universities.
History
The Inter-University Translation Competition is a unique learning experience for students in KSA and the Gulf region. It is organized during the second semester of every academic year. The first round was held in April 2014, with the participation of the four universities with translation programs in Riyadh. In its second round in April 2015, the competition attracted eight universities across the Kingdom. The competition has been held once a year since that time until today. In 2021, in light of continuing the educational process despite the circumstances of the COVID 19 pandemic, the TAC organized the competition online, harnessed technology was used to preserve the safety of all participants. Holding the competition online encouraged the participation of many universities within the Kingdom and from the Gulf region as well.

Competition Goals
The competition has maintained the following goals:
- Create a healthy context for competition among translation students across the Kingdom and the gulf region.
- Strengthen collaboration among translation programs across the Kingdom and the gulf region.
- Celebrate the significance of translation and recognize excellence among its students.
Competition Tracks
The competition included two main tracks: Written Translation Competition and Interpretation Competition. In addition to a Translation exhibition that displayed the works of translation students and introduced the students to translation and language centers in the region.
Refereeing Procedure
The refereeing of any competition is the key to its credibility. Hence, great care is taken to ensure the impartiality of the referees and the integrity of the competition procedure. The refereeing committees are composed of highly specialized and renown translation professors and professional translators and interpreters in both tracks. The blind refereeing process ensures the impartiality and accuracy of the results. Results of the refereeing and final decisions of winners is announced in the closing ceremony along with a brief feedback to the participating teams.
