Translation Competition

The Regional Inter-University Translation Competition is a unique competition as it is the only one of its type in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Gulf. Since its beginning in 2014, it attracts translation departments in Saudi Arabia, and expanded to include other universities from the region. It aims to promote the competitive spirit among the participants and prepare them to the vibrant labor market. The competition symbolizes the national vision 2030 in its focus on the youth and their readiness to the future.

During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, the competition was held virtually and was the first of its kind worldwide. The online participation has encouraged participation form Gulf Region universities. The online translation competition (Virtual) accomplished a resounding success, which all PSU community is proud of. Nine universities form Saudi Arabia and the Gulf Region participated in the competition. In 2022, due to the increasing demand and lack of a similar translation competition for male students, the competition expanded to include both male and female undergraduate students in addition to the participation of gulf Region universities.

At the end of the competition day, the winners of the first three places are announced and awarded financial prizes and plaques in addition to plaques of participation to all participating universities.

Sponsorship

For the 8th consecutive year, Riyadh Bank generously sponsored the competition in its 9th round.

Refereeing Procedure

The refereeing of any competition is the key to its credibility. Hence, great care is taken to ensure the impartiality of the referees and the integrity of the competition procedure. The selected referees are from universities that are not participating in the competition to ensure that they are not supporting any of the candidates.

To ensure the credibility of the process, the refereeing is blind in the consecutive interpretation and the written translation tracks. The referees, without any interference or even prior knowledge of the winning teams, announce the results by the organizers. They also explain the strengths and weaknesses they noted to the audience.
