Prince Sultan University celebrates a major milestone as Dr. Sajjad Ali (Energy, Water & Environment Lab) publishes PSU’s first paper in a prestigious Nature series journal.
The article, “2D Ferroelectric Narrow-Bandgap Semiconductor Wurtzite’ Type α-In₂Se₃ & its Silicon-Compatible Growth,” appeared in Nature Communications (Impact Factor: 15.7) on August 9, 2025.
The study, in collaboration with the Chinese Academy of Sciences, introduces a silicon-compatible, ultrathin ferroelectric semiconductor with implications for AI hardware, low-power electronics, and advanced optoelectronics.
Early device tests based on the new material demonstrated synapse-like behavior and achieved over 92% accuracy in AI learning tasks — a step toward brain-inspired, energy-efficient computing.

He received both his degree in BS Information Systems (2013), and MBA in Finance (2019) from Prince Sultan University. He worked as a consultant/researcher with renowned global companies and government agencies such as PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), Oliver Wyman and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
